Typography
Intermediate
Typography is the selecting, arranging, and styling of text to establish readability and usability in a design.
How I use it
I have a fascination with typography, I’ve always enjoyed viewing and studying different fonts. They have a instant emotional effects on me. This attraction to fonts however can pose a slight issue in design as I can fall in love with a great looking font that is far from meeting readability standards. Therefore I also approach fonts with a systematic mindset to do my best to avoid running into any usability issues.
As a designer I use typography to Establishing visual hierarchy such as headings vs. body text. I also use ADA typography guidelines to improving readability and legibility in all my designs.
Finally Typography is intertwined with creating a consistent personality and tone for a application or website. As I mentioned I do feel a certain passion about fonts and I believe a good design is improved with interesting typography that sends an emotional message to the user, just one that does not get in the way of usability!
