User Flows

Advanced

User Flows are diagrams that map out the step-by-step paths a user takes to complete a specific task or goal within a product or website. They visualize how users navigate through screens, decisions, and actions.

How I use it

Interaction Design is a captivating area of the design world. I practice it frequently in my work and one of the chief skills I use to create adequate interaction design is User Flows. User Flows are aid me in wrapping my head around user’s interaction with a design. I rely heavily on JBTD statements to set up what tasks user’s will need to complete in a product. From there I work with User Flows to map out each step a user will take to complete a desired task.

These flows are incredibly revealing, they force me to make sure every little part of the interaction is accounted for. They are also a very effective way for me to translate my thoughts on how a user will interact with the product to others such as stakeholders and developers.

Interaction Design is an area I am working to improve my skill in further. I am planning on taking classes from the Interaction Design Foundation this fall.
